Why You Should Eat When You’re Sick

As I write this my state of mind is a bit altered. I am running a temperature of 101.8 and I feel like I have had a conversation with Grim himself. At least he was decent company.

Normal Stuff

On that preceding intro, allow me to explain myself. Today started out like any other normal day. I woke up early to tackle the errands in my schedule. I ate a bowl of oats, monstrous plate of eggs and drank a shake. I had to run to the YMCA, update my membership information, go to the ATM and meet a good friend downtown to hang for a few hours. Not an incredibly happening day, but you know, fairly normal. That’s exactly how I felt up until about 4pm. I felt as normal as a young guy can feel, just going about his business, living life and hanging out with one of his best friends.

Lyle McDonald of BodyRecomposition is very well known for his in-depth and no BS approach when discussing nutrition and fat loss. He has published a total of seven books, all of which are incredible resources, especially when learning about proper dieting. To date, he has not published any books on training, but I suspect that day may come eventually.

Speaking of training, he has developed his own generic bulking routine which has its own sticky in the bodybuilding section on his infamous discussion forum. The program has been hashed out ad nauseam by the forum members and Lyle has referenced it in one of his training articles in which he discusses a few popular hypertrophy training programs such as DC Training and HST Training.

Yes, I called the idea of eating 5-6 small meals per day dogma. I have not lost my mind and I am not ignorant, or uneducated. I am quite the opposite. I have spent many hours reading and learning about this common misconception we as fitness enthusiasts and bodybuilders have been mislead to believe. We have come to believe that eating 5-6 small meals throughout the day is superior and optimal when pursuing that coveted physique. I used to subscribe to the notion that one could only process 30-35 grams of protein for each meal and any excess would just pass through your digestive system unused or “wasted.” This notion has been touted by many fitness pros as well as protein supplement companies for years.
