My Thoughts On Flexible Dieting

A diet, in the general sense of the word, can encompass many different meanings to every individual.  For the off-season bodybuilder, it means truckloads of food, lots of protein and the occasional trip to the all-you-can-eat buffet.  To the Paleo-obsessed, it means no processed carbohydrates, HFCS, and whatever else they feel like including or excluding depending on how they feel about their ancestors’ diet.  To the figure athlete getting ready for a show, the word depicts 16 weeks of starvation and lots of boring food choices.

Dieting, to most of us, means a strict or controlled period of time where we eat less and move more in hopes of torching our body fat into oblivion. [Read more...]

The Perfect Caloric Surplus

Today’s article, like many others, was inspired from many email conversations I’ve had and many forum discussions I’ve stumbled upon.  The question I pose today usually originates from the overly obsessed individual or the more oftentimes, former fat boy.

How To Cope With Your Thanksgiving Binge

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite times of the year.  There’s nothing like sitting down with the people you love and participating in pure gluttony for an entire afternoon.  Yesterday, around 2:30, we had a Ronnie Coleman-sized turkey, cornbread dressing, green bean casserole, broccoli salad, about 5 different kinds of bread, mashed potatoes and of course the best pumpkin pie I’ve ever eaten.  I was going to purchase some liquid bread (beer) to go with dinner but I forgot, so I drank some leftover eggnog and rum instead. The Former Fat Boy Syndrome

I must admit I am a FFB (Former Fat Boy).  I am willing to bet many of the guys reading this were FFB’s.  As a FFB I know we tend to think our metabolisms are subpar or we can’t build muscle efficiently due to our endomorphic proportions.  This is what’s known as the FFBS (former fat boy syndrome).  I say this is bullhonkey (nice attempt at swearing I know).  The sad truth is being a former fat boy may even be worse on the psyche than starting out as a skinny bastard (as Joe DeFranco would say).  My goal today is to reach out to all the FFB’s and offer some encouragement, hope and a swift kick in the ass.
