Improve Your Fitness by Limiting Your Choices

As I write this, I’m sitting in the living room of my friend’s home about 2 blocks from the famous Hollywood Boulevard.  I’ve been here since the 9th and won’t be home until the 30th.  The plan was to come here for 2 weeks and then return to the south, but I’ve been having too much fun, and actually swapped out my tickets for an even cheaper flight, so I figured I’d stay another week.

My birthday is August 4th, but I always celebrate the entire month (in my house, we call it birthday month).  It’s been the best birthday month yet and a great vacation gift to myself.

Being my first time in Los Angeles, I’m a bit overwhelmed as I’ve never been to such a big place in my life (other than flight layovers).  I’ve had the chance to meet some interesting people, and experience a slightly different culture than the southern living I’m accustomed to.

Regardless of the differences, I’ve fallen in love with the place thus far.  I’ve made some new friends, had some interesting experiences and conversations along the way.

In fact, this article is inspired from a conversation I’ve had most recently with a lady I met through my friend who’s hosting me. [Read more...]

Clean Eating: Why I Still Call it a Scam

Upon diligent reflection of last week’s emotionally-charged article headline on the sultry subject of clean eating, I believe it’s only fair to expand a bit more on why I believe clean eating to be a faulty concept and nothing but a false belief limiting the minds of many.

First of all, almost immediately after I hit publish last Monday, I noticed some traffic from the bodybuilding.com forums and thought to myself, “Oh, cool, someone really enjoyed the article.  I’m glad they decided to share it.”

I never expected I’d receive a lesson on people’s inability to comprehend what they read as well as how a headline with a few carefully-selected words could immediately send someone into a defensive fury.  Thus, it’s obvious that a first impression, ie: me calling clean eating a scam, altered their ability to remain objective enough to read and analyze the information for themselves.

Call me a mind controller. [Read more...]

Clean Eating is a Scam and Why You Should Abandon It

Clean Eating

Clean eating – it’s a term we’ve all used and have surely heard a million times.  We’ve stumbled upon it in the magazines, seen it in our favorite diet books and have probably even heard it on TV.  Heck there’s even a magazine titled Clean Eating.

Now I have no problem with the magazine – the recipes are really good and the pictures are something I often lust after.  I do, however, have a problem with the negative connotation it presents to the minds of many health and fitness enthusiasts and even some professionals unwilling to consider other ideas.

For many who adhere strictly to the clean-eating principles, it cripples our relationship with food and often affects our social lives.  For some, it has much steeper consequences.  An obsession with clean eating and meal timing can be the cause for dysfunctional eating down the road for a few. The Vacation Diet: How To Maintain Your Weight While Traveling

Regardless of your goals, maintaining a steady diet is fairly easy when you’re in the comfort of your own home and regular routine.  However, when the summer rolls around or the boss sends you out for work, traveling can pose a major issue for any fitness enthusiasts diet.

When I mention diet in this sense, it does not imply a fat-loss diet.  I’m merely referring to our everyday choices regarding the cooked animal, fresh produce, and often processed goods we routinely consume.

While traveling in the past, my diet usually went from fairly decent to absolutely horrible in a matter of days.  This is what I’d call my “vacation diet.”  To completely lose ALL control was fairly common as my rigid guidelines and ideas regarding meal frequency and varying degrees of clean and unclean food were completely irrational and unsustainable.  However, I’ve since grown out of such a mindset.  Read my e-book to find out how I finally discovered the big picture and how I now push minutiae to the wayside.
