Birthday Month for JCDFitness + Some News

Birthday Month for JCDFitness + Some News

In my house, we don’t believe in cutting off our birthday celebration at the 24 hour mark – no, we celebrate the entire month. As a result, there are three months of celebration.

We have March (my roommate) and this year we spent time in Vegas for his celebration.  We have August (my birthday) where I spent 3 weeks in Hollywood CA playing and working, and this month is the 3 year mark for JCDFitness.com.

Yes, my friends, that’s practically forever in internet years considering how many websites are created daily that never get updated and fall into the interwebz abyss.

In fact it’s hard to believe, but I put up the first post on October 15th, 2008.  I’m sort of embarrassed to make that post so public as I was an awful writer when I started (just scan the archives…).  In fact, I’d never written much more than a high school paper when I started JCDFitness.

Anyhow, THANK YOU for reading and sharing my work over the last 3 years.  I’ve made a lot of great friends in the process and I look forward to creating more awesome relationships in the next 3+ years to come.

To celebrate birthday month, I’ll be doing a little traveling.  I leave next Thursday for Boston in which I’ll be visiting friends such as Roger Lawson of RogLawfitness.com, eating lots of ribs and seeing the city.

On the 30th, I’ll be heading to New York City to hang with Kenneth Yim of FitID.com, Dick Talens of Fitocracy.com (get a personal invite here), John Romaniello, as well as paying a visit to the folks at Greatist.com.

So while this trip will be fun, I’ll also be working a lot as well.

Some Site Changes and New Things on the Horizon

If you remember, back in February I launched a redesign of JCDFitness and on the home page of the site, I had an image slider to the right, with what looked like the cover of a book reading Look Great Naked – the bs-free manual.

Then I put up this new design a little over a month ago and removed that image entirely…

I ended up receiving a good deal of questions and emails about it, asking when it would be available, its contents, etc.

Well, as you can see, it hasn’t happened since the last design and now.  Truth is I’d spoken to about a dozen people about it, got their ideas and thoughts but never did anything.  I got busy, and sort of put it on the back burner.

However, I’m revisiting the idea once again – thinking of putting together some material, a resource that would act as a training/diet manual to get you from point A to point B with regards to your goal of looking great naked.

In such a manual, you’d have a blueprint with strategies to get lean, build muscle and strength.  You’d know how to set up your diet for specific goals, how to chart your progress, how to make changes when necessary and how to continue progressing on your own – with minimal hype or BS – the minimum effective dose.

But here’s the deal…

I’m an extreme perfectionist and I only want it to be awesome if I do such a thing.  There are too many ‘guides’ out there that ain’t up to snuff…

It’s going to take some time and effort putting it together.

So if something like this would interest you – please leave a comment, or suggestion about what you’d like to see.

You should name your book The Penultimate Diet! because that’s better than ultimate.

  2. tasha says:

I’d dig on a manual. ;) Congrats on your 3 years!

  3. Adam says:

I am already excited and can’t wait.

  4. Eric says:

Congrats on the birthday month and for all the great content!

  5. Marvin says:

Wow, I can’t believe it’s been 3 years already! I definitely would want to see a manual from you as well. I think it’d be great to have, especially for quick access in those moments where you might start to doubt your training program or diet and need a kick in the ass to stay on it….

probably goes without saying, but I’m ALL FOR this guide!

Also, congrats on three years! I think it’s safe to say that there are many more to come, and I’m lookin forward to it!

    Great job bruh

  8. Nia nails it pretty well, you are the right person to do it. Why? Because you have this gift of simplifying things and pinpointing only the 20% which yield 80%.
Nowadays everybody is trying to sound very sophisticated, elevated … that’s why we start to love simple things.

Regarding the material, I think it should contain something related to the mental part of getting fit. We all know what we need to do in order to look great but we end up in bed, surfing the net or wasting our time.

The Nike commercial is great, “Just do it”. From my experience, there were days when I just had to do it because I was planning in advance. What I’m trying to say is that it would be great to see the material has a part on habits, planning, how you program yourself to succeed. Jim Loehr book “the power of full engagement” is great about this topic.

This is what goes through my mind at the moment, might come back

  9. Mate, you know I train people for a living and if the amount of time I refer people to your site to cut through the mysticism surrounding body composition training is anything to go by, you should have already written it.

  10. Teddy says:

Sounds like a great idea Im really looking forward to it

  11. paul synnott says:

Hey JC, Really looking Forward to manual
(I will most likely get it printed & bound – much easier to read that way, and nice to have it on stand by for reference)

I would like to read more about – finding out your maintenance
Your articles on this subject are great – so I’m not sure if you can elaborate or improve on them.

    Thanks

  12. DS says:

LOL at perfectionist. I understand completely. So your guide may be coming out just as quickly as Martin Berkhans book. I tell you, Berardi at Precision Nutrition is going to steal all the good stuff you two are pioneering.

  13. Troy says:

Celebrate! Three years is indeed a long time on the interwebz.

Say hello to the folks at Greatist. I had the chance to write a few articles for them, just couldn’t keep the pace up. They are flying at warp-speed. Awesome group and fun site.

And a no-bs manual would be great. Straight to the point info from JC on how to get from point A to B. I love it.

  14. Keith J says:

    What’s Up JC!
Congrats on the site, as much as it is us reading it is really is you filling it with awesome-no BS-info! So congrats and thank YOU! I hope all is well.

And HELL YES… I would love to see that manual. I’d love it to be an organized collection of all the awesomeness you’ve graced us with over the past 3 years, but maybe that’s just a bit of my OCD kicking in… either way whatever you put in it would be awesome!

    Thanks

  15. Martin says:

    Hi JC,
    Congrats!

    Your website is truly awesome.

About the homepage new design, I miss the “Beginners” link. The page still works (http://jcdfitness.com/start-here/) but I had to google it to find the page. I believe everyone new to your site should start there.

    Best regards
