You had a really rough day at the office. Your car broke down on the way home and made you late for dinner. Your significant other told you about all of the things you failed to do right today. Your co-workers are not helping you stick to your fat loss diet when they offer you Krispy Kreme’s every morning. Everything seems to be a bunch of suck at this current moment. One of the biggest deters is how much weight you’ve gained over the last few months. You want change and you want it now. Actually you want it yesterday. So as you lie in bed awake, tossing and turning from the previous days stress, you do what everyone else does. You turn on the TV.

No Cell Phones Please
Today I want to briefly bellow about something that really gets under my skin. I suppose you can place my grievance under the umbrella of proper gym etiquette if you’re into that sort of thing. I have a few stories along with my reasons as to why I think talking on your cell phone should be banned from the training floor. Alright, you can keep your cell in your pocket but please, for the love of my Siamese felines, do not blabber on the phone while you are around others who are training. If you absolutely must take a call, you are fully capable of moving to another room to continue your conversation. I would never say ban cell phones completely as life emergencies happen and thankfully we live in a day and age where it’s possible to be reached whilst being almost anywhere.

The Consummate Training Log
Ah yes, the oh so wonderful training log. I didn’t always use to think they were so great and I actually used to hate using one. During my athletic years, it was a command from our Nazi coach that we record every rep and every set for every single day we touched a weight. We had no choice as we only got the pleasure of living amidst his dictatorship.
What I used to despise, I now love. I used to believe recording my workouts in a training log was tedious and ineffectual. Of course, I was wrong and I soon found out why.
My First Time
Now for story time. I remember the end of my final football game my sophomore year. We all walked into the locker room, slowly un-padded and began turning in our gear. Our strength and conditioning coach walked around(with a grin from ear to ear) placing training logs in our lockers while we pampered our sweaty selves. I remember returning to my locker and seeing some big letters in Times New Roman font reading: IT’S TIME TO GET STRONG. I always liked the off season. I think I liked bit better than the actual season because I was more interested in strength training than playing football anyhow. This was my first time ever to consistently use a training log and it served me very well. I then learned how much I love progression.

Will Drinking Beer Give Me A Beer Belly and Ruin My Diet?
I recently received an email from a reader that read:
Hey,
Tomorrow I am gonna be going out with friends for drinks, should I eat less during the day to compensate for my drinks or just go over a little on the calorie side.Ben
My response:
Don t worry about it.
Yes, that was my actual reply. I sincerely meant all four of those intricately crafted words too. He is a college student and likes to go have a few drinks now and then. We all know there ain’t nothin’ wrong with that. I enjoy a cold brew every once in a blue moon as well. While I do not partake regularly, when I do I am particularly partial to stouts, porters and ales. There is just something that I love about dark, foamy beer; I cannot explain it. I love the hoppy taste, the tantalizing aroma and the calming effects I experience after 2-3 rounds of an oatmeal stout.
